Precision plastic injection moulding firm Icon Plastics has expanded its capabilities by investing £120,000 in new machinery.
The latest investment by the ambitious company has involved buying five machines including the replacement of two older presses.
Among the newly-installed devices is one twin-shot machine that enables components to be manufactured from two different types of material or in two different colours.
Icon Plastics Managing Director Gareth Thomas said: “Our strategy is to develop and grow the business and integral to this is investing for the future so we have the ability to not only meet, but exceed, customer needs and expectations.”
Operations Director Phil Walker said: “This latest investment is part of a continuous improvement programme at Icon Plastics that demonstrates our appetite for growth and our commitment to excellence, efficiency and increasing our capabilities.”
Icon Plastics has invested more than £1m since it moved to new premises at Durham Lane Industrial Park, Eaglescliffe, in 2014.
It has customers in a range of sectors including electronics, agricultural, healthcare and medical, construction, defence and automotive,
The company operates around the clock five days a week and – thanks to its latest investment – now has 22 moulding machines.
While Icon’s marketplace is predominantly the UK, it does some business overseas, and exports to Malaysia, Austria, and Eastern Europe. Its clients include Veolia group, and Sepura.
